Tree Planting

Hello everyone,

~The information for tree planting~

Last Saturday, I and a few more members visited Volunteer Orientation for Our City Forest.

At first, the office was difficult to find, and there was no sign for that, so I had to ask a police(I happened to meet him) where the office was.
Then, there were only 5 people including me who came to the orientation.

The powerpoint itself and explanation about Our City Forest was good. They seemed to work a lot and to enjoy themself, but I was disappointed about how small the orientation was.

We could try to work with them, but I cannot guarantee that we could have worth to do it because of gap.
But, I thought we could just try to work because they seemed like have a lot of programs.

~What they do~
1. neighborhood planting-plant with a public community(need an application)
2. park planting in public-sometimes they plant with high school students.
3. Planting efficiency(tree patrol)- check whether the trees were planted correctly, trees' health, and maintenance.
4. Grassroots Mobilization- teach students and neighborhood
5. Tree amigo- train people to be leaders (it is about 7session program)
6. Outreach to get funding

These are the main things what they do. these are good though.
Some of works need some applications, but if you just want to do volunteer on one day, you can just contact them before that day.
They often work on week days... of course they also work on weekends too.

This is my opinion and the information from what I saw there. I hope the other member who went there could give more opinion!
If anyone really wants to work for them, please let me know.

Thank you,
Mayako

Awesome Mayako! Good input. Since the tree planting wasn't exactly what you were looking for, as an alternative, now that the weather is warmer maybe another community involvement / volunteer thing we can do is a beach cleanup. I suggest contacting your friend from Circle K, they were interested in doing a beach clean up with us. May 22 is Ocean Day in CA, and a lot of people do beach cleanups then, or we could do one before then.
